    Adobe to Release iPad-Compatible Cloud

Stylus and Digital Ruler in 2014

Earlier this year, Adobe unveiled two cloud-enabled hardware offerings: the "Mighty" stylus and the "Napoleon" digital guide and ruler. The tools were in the development phase at the time, but Adobe has now announced that both Mighty and Napoleon will be released during the first half of 2014.

To bring the products to fruition, Adobe is teaming up with Adonit, known for its own line of Jot styluses. Both tools are constructed with brushed aluminum and feature Creative Cloud connectivity via Adobe software to allow users to store preferences and save their work remotely. Bluetooth LE is enabled on both tools, and Mighty, Adobe’s "cloud pen", is pressure-sensitive, letting digital artists create line drawings with variable widths based on pressure. Napoleon, the digital ruler, is designed to function alongside the stylus, allowing users to draw straight lines and arcs.
With our first tools for the new creative — Project Mighty and Napoleon — we are confident that we can help make digital creativity both more accessible and more natural by combining the accuracy, expressiveness and immediacy of pen and paper with all the advantages of our digital products and the Creative Cloud. As we shared in our initial demo, Project Mighty is pressure sensitive, which helps it draw a natural and expressive line. It is also connected to the Creative Cloud, giving you the ability to carry all of your favorite personal digital assets, brushes and colors with you, copy/paste across devices and more.
Along with a release date for its upcoming hardware, Adobe announced that its Creative Cloud apps have garnered more than 1 million subscribers since being released earlier this year.

The company's Photoshop Photography Program has also gone live today, giving current owners of Photoshop CS3 or higher an opportunity to purchase both Photoshop and Lightroom for $9.99 per month.

HTC One Mini coming to EE and Phones 4U 'later this year'

Honey, HTC's shrunk the kid! The HTC One Mini was officially unveiled this morning. Check out Andy's glorious hands-on photos, video and carefully considered opinions here. Go on, I'll wait.
Pretty nifty, huh? The One Mini will be available in the UK "later this year" according to high-street phone-flogger Phones 4U, who'll be selling the bejeezus out of it.
EE and O2 would also like you to know they're selling the mid-sized metal marvel, but had no further deets to share. It's a 4G phone, so it'll work on EE's pricey superfast network.
We don't yet know how much the One Mini will cost, either SIM-free or on a contract, with HTC keeping schtum on the subject.

The aluminium One Mini is clearly inspired by Samsung's Galaxy S4 Mini, a mid-range blower with the same style as the mighty S4. Both are slightly disingenuously sold as being just as powerful as their bigger-screened brethren, when their specs are significantly weaker.
A dual-core processor sits inside the One Mini, in theory less powerful than the One's quad-core bruiser. Makers Qualcomm claim the chip's new design means more grunt for less battery power than the quad slurps, but we'll have to judge that for ourselves when we get it in for review. Saving the battery is a reasonable concession, as it's inevitably a less capacious cell in the phone's smaller chassis.
The S4 Mini, meanwhile, is measurably less powerful than the normal S4, but was still able to play 3D games comfortably. In general it's up to most things Android can throw at it, but you are losing bragging rights over the S4 and S4 Active.
As for the screen, it's shrunk from 4.7 inches on the One to 4.3 inches on the One Mini and lowered the screen resolution and pixel density. At 720p though, it's still slightly sharper than theiPhone 5's 4-inch screen and Andy reported it looked "satisfyingly sharp" in his hands-on.
What do you reckon of the One Mini so far? How cheap does it need to be? Is it a shame it's not packing a quad-core chip, or a sensible battery-saving decision? Leave a comment below, or over on our uncompromising

August launch for ISRO’s first defence satellite

GSAT-7 is exclusively meant for the armed forces

In about a month, yet another but far more important Indian satellite for military communication network will be launched from the South American spaceport at Kourou.
GSAT-7 or INSAT-4F is slated for launch on August 30 and is exclusively meant for the armed forces, primarily Indian Navy. From its slot over 74 degrees East longitude, it is said to boost the naval arm’s strategic communication strengths across warships in Indian waters and their commands — but that is about all we may know for now about the first Indian military-only communication spacecraft.
“With GSAT-7 you will see a sea change in communication over the region,” an official recently told The Hindu, playing on the word.
The spacecraft was earlier meant to be launched on the indigenous GSLV but that programme is not fully ready: the first resumed GSLV using the Indian cryogenic stage is slated to fly on August 19 after nearly three years.

    BLOCKING CAPACITY

Traditionally, the INSAT communication satellites met the needs of the defence forces by blocking a small part of their transponder capacity for secure communications. In recent years, the armed forces have been demanding special satellites and a larger share of space for themselves as part of national defence.
ISRO on its own PSLVs has put in orbit three earth observation satellites. Its remote sensing satellites RISAT-1 of 2012, TecSAR of 2009 and TES of 2001 have carried extremely sharp view cameras to spot people and objects from heights of around 700 km.
The agency has never admitted the military functions, merely describing these satellites as multi-purpose.
The 2,550-kg GSAT-7 is undergoing preliminary checks at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou. It carries multiple bands in ultra high frequency, S band, C band and the higher Ku band, says ISRO’s website.
GSAT-7 will be flown on Arianespace’s Ariane 5 launcher VA215, according to the European company that has rolled out its next campaign after Friday’s launch.Arianespace said it has got the 10-tonne lifter ready to take in GSAT-7 and its co-passenger, the 6-tonne broadcast satellite Eutelsat 25B/Es’hail 1 for Qatar Satellite Company.
As for ISRO, the GSAT-7 launch will briefly bring the curtains down on two unprecedented and hectic months of having launched four diverse satellites. Come October, it will have to hoist its milestone Mars Orbiter Mission all the way across 400 million km over nine months.

GSLV D5 LAUNCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO NEXT MONTH DUE TO FUEL LEAKAGE

    Sunday 18 August 2013

    GSLV-D5

Indian space science is waiting at the threshold of a new phase of mega satellite launches and exploration as the countdown for the GSLV-D5 rocket launch began at 11.50am on Sunday. Twenty-nine hours later, at 4.50pm on Monday, the rocket carrying telecommunication satellite GSAT-14 will lift off from Sriharikota, 100km north of Chennai.

GSAT-14, which weighs 1,982kg, will be used for telecast and telecommunication.

What makes the launch crucial for the nation is the use of an indigenous cryogenic engine as the upper stage. The first attempt to use an indigenous cryogenic engine on April 15, 2010 to power GSLV-D3 was a failure. With only one more Russian cryogenic engine left in the Isro arsenal, success of the indigenous technology using oxygen and hydrogen in extreme low temperatures as the fuel will propel several big ticket future missions including a manned project to space.

Isro senior scientists led by chairman K Radhakrishnan are monitoring GSLV-D5, whose strap-boosters started getting fuelled soon after the countdown. Liquid propellants are being filled into the second stage. Liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, which fuel the cryogenic engine will be filled around 9am on Monday. Scientists at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre told TOI that the rocket's health and weather conditions were fine.

India needs cryogenic engines to launch GSLVs that can carry payloads weighing more than three tonnes, which hold the key to future of telecommunication and space exploration. GSLV-D5 weighs 414 tonnes.

Since 1994, India has had 23 consecutive successes with the Polar Sateliite Launch Vehicles (PSLVs), an improvised version of which was used for Chandrayaan-1 in August 2009. However, PSLVs can carry only payloads weighing up to 1.5 tonnes to a geosynchronous transfer orbit (a highly elliptical orbit with the nearest point to earch about 200km and the farthest 42,00km) , and up to 3.5 tonnes to a low earth orbit of about 200km from earth. GSLV can carry payloads weighing 2.5 tonnes to a geosynchronous transfer orbit, and up to 5 tonnes to a low earth orbit.

    Role of electronics.

everything that surrounds us has direct link to Electronics, from the very computers we use whether it be laptops, netbooks or notebooks which has millions of tiny electronic components on it like resistors, inductors, capacitors, logic gates and the likes to the calculators, appliances, gizmos, measuring devices, and gadgets to name just a few. Electronics truly molded our lives we have today, for without it, we might as well grimacing in the shackles of underdevelopment and stagnant society where progress is hardly felt as if we are in an isolated islands. Electronics is the barometer of how far humans have gone through if we use the advancement in technology as a yardstick of progress. The dawn of the new wave of the future is bound to fascinate the world once again, the microchips which houses thousands to several millions of semiconductor components that makes our computers do their functions and features is expected to undergo major transformation in the near future. The nano technology, will soon sweep the world and will soon break barriers between possible and impossible, the author of this hub will soon make a hub about this spectacular technology that deals with microscopic objects

I think people will probably read too much into it (note that it was the analyst who laughed first, and laughter is contagious). I think Musk is sincere when he says that it's a good thing and that he hopes BMW keeps improving. After all, his stated goal with Tesla is to catalyze the industry, so he wants other companies to also make good EVs (there are easier ways to make money than to start a new car company and try to convince people to buy electric cars...). That's why he also partners with companies like Toyota and Daimler.
I think BMW's main problem with the i3 is that they caught a case of 'conceptcaritis'. If they had made an EV, built from the ground up to be electric, but that looked a bit more like a BMW 1 series or 3 series, or even like it does now but with fewer funky touches, I think it would feel more mainstream and less like a concept car. After all, the Tesla Model S, despite all its innovations, wouldn't look out of place parked next to most other cars in its price range.

    Sound Into Electrical Energy

The future, you could charge your cell phone just by chatting.
Researchers at South Korea’s Sungkyunkwan University have developed a new technology that converts soundwaves into electrical energy, The Telegraph reports. With the sound-harvesting tech, batteries could be charged by everything from the human voice and music to the sound of highway traffic.

Researcher Dr. Sang-Woo Kim said, “The sound that always exists in our everyday life and environments has been overlooked as a source. This motivated us to realise power generation by turning sound energy from speech, music or noise into electrical power.”
